Question:
How far apart do the crossbars need to be to mount the SportRack Vista XL Cargo Box? A lot of newer cars have FIXED crossbar location, like my new Santa Fe XL. The distance between the bars is about 48 inch max and a minimum of about 37. Does that firt the hole locations for this product?

The SportRack Vista XL Cargo Box # SR7018 fits crossbar spreads of 23-5/8", 25-7/8", 27-7/8", and 29-7/8". Since this is smaller than what your Santa Fe XL can accommodate I have a different recommendation for you.
For your application I recommend going with the Yakima RocketBox Pro # Y07192 because it has a similar shape to the box you are looking are, a carrying capacity of 14 cu ft, and is compatible with crossbar spreads from 24" - 40".
This box is on the higher end when it comes to cost but that is due to the upgraded features like dual-side access (as opposed to it only opening from the back), mounting brackets, an easy-to-use locking feature, 4 internal tie-down points for securing cargo, and reinforced bracings to add strength to the lid and box.
