Does Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller Need to Power Off When Not In Use
Updated 01/14/2019 | Published 01/13/2019 >
Question:
I just installed my P3 Controller on my 2006 Ford Expedition. Everything seems to be in good order, but I havent yet hooked onto a trailer. The P3 unit powers up when connected as expected but I cant find a way to turn it off. Is there an on/off function or is it normal to just leave it on? Should I unplug the unit whenever the truck is not driven for several days?

Helpful Expert Reply:
Brake controllers such as the P3 you referenced # 90195 will go into a sleep mode after about 15 minutes of it sensing no movement. If you peek through the window after 15 minutes then it should be in sleep mode. Opening the door or causing movement to the truck could cause it to wake back up.
You don't want to fully shut down the controller as you'd lose all of the settings you selected.
