Hitch on 23 Foot Motor Home Drags When Pulling Wells Cargo Trailer

Question:

I have a 23foot motorhome pulling a Wells Cargo trailer. The motorhome overhangs the rear axle 8foot and while pulling the trailer level scrapes the hitch when entering a driveway with a moderate dip such as when I get gas. Could this unit somehow replace the coupler I have to raise the hitching point of my trailer so that I could use a hitch with less of a . Right now I am using a 10inch hitch just to get the trailer level. Thanks

Since there is such a big gap from the rear axle to the end of the motor home there will be an increased chance the hitch will drag.

You could use the Bulldog Cast Head Coupler, part # BDA2005C0317, but you would need to have it welded onto the A-frame of your Wells Cargo Trailer by a trailer professional or certified welder. This would then allow you to use a ball mount with less of a drop. As you may know, you will still want to make sure the trailer is being pulled as level as possible with the new setup. I have linked an FAQ that shows how to choose the correct ball mount.

In addition to installing a new coupler, you can use some rollers on the rear of your motor home. Checkout the Ultra-Fab Steel Roller, part # UF48-979020. We also have ball mounts with rollers like the RoadMaster Roller Ball Mount, part # RM-051-4.

I have linked an FAQ that shows how to measure for the correct ball mount.
