What are Pin Functions of 5-Way End on Hopkins Adapter # HM47025

Question:

Buckle in. This could get deep? Hi, I have a 2017 Thor Chateau 31L. I have this pigtail: Item #hm47025 5-pin and this wiring kit: RM-154 4-pin. Both purchased here. Item hm47025 description states the 5-way end mates to either a 4-way or 5-way flat connector. Picturing the 5 pin connector on 787207, number the connections from 1 to 5 going from left to right with the last pin as male. I hooked the pigtail to coach and fired up the motorhome. I used a multi meter to trace the following functions to each of the poles on the 5-pin. 5 – ground????? 1 – parking/taillights 2 - left turn signal/brake 3 - right turn signal/brake 4 - empty no function- received no volts on #4 on any test – taillights, turn signal, brakes If the 5th is ground and 4 provides no function, how does a 4 pin male connector properly mate to the 5-pin female and produce the desired result? #4 doesn't get any juice in any test. Thanks.

When looking at the 5-Way end of the Hopkins Coiled Adapter # HM47025 like you described, with the male pin being number 5, the pin functions are as follows:

1. Backup Light Circuit
2. Right Turn/Brake
3. Left Turn/Brake
4. Running/Tail
5. Ground

With this in mind it definitely looks like something might be miswired on your setup. The first thing I recommend doing is testing the 7-Way on your RV in the same manner that you tested the 5-Way on the adapter. The functions should match the diagram I have attached.

If the pin orientation on the 7-way differs from this diagram then it will need to be re-wired so that it matches to this or any other standard adapter. If it matches up correctly please let me know and we can continue to troubleshoot!
