Towing Capacity of 2018 Mazda CX-5

How much weight can a 2018 Mazda cx5 AWD pull

Based on my research your 2018 Mazda CX-5 AWD has a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 pounds. I also recommend verifying this by checking your copy of the owner's manual or by visiting a local Mazda dealer with your VIN.

If you are looking to tow a trailer you will need a trailer hitch, wiring harness, and ball mount.

Starting with the trailer hitch I recommend the Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Receiver Hitch # 76138. This Class III hitch is confirmed to fit your vehicle and will use existing holes in its frame for a no-drill installation. Please note that while this particular hitch has a higher towing weight capacity of 4,500 pounds, you will still need to adhere to the 2,000 pound limit of your vehicle.

I have attached an installation video on the 2017 model Mazda CX-5 that you can use for reference.

Then for a wiring harness I recommend the Tekonsha T-One # 118746. This is a custom harness that will install by plugging into factory ports behind the trim panels in the cargo area (on both the driver and passenger side). After the connections are made you will just run the hot lead up to the vehicle battery. This will provide you with a 4-Way connector to connect with and power a trailer's basic signal lights.

Lastly you will need a ball mount and hitch ball like what is included in the Ball Mount Kit # 989900. This kit includes two ball mounts (one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop) and two size hitch balls (1-7/8 inch and 2 inch). I have also attached a great article that explains how to choose the best ball mount for your setup if the ones in this kit do not feature a rise or drop sufficient for pulling your trailer level.
