what hitch fits my 2018 BMW X5? also I have a friend who has a hitch that started rusting. how can I keep this from happening?

The trailer hitches that fit your 2018 BMW X5 are the Draw-Tite # 75600 (excluding M performance models) and the Curt # 13077 (including M performance models). Unless you have the M performance model I recommend going with the Draw-Tite option because it doesn't require the use of a support strap # 18050 for non-trailer loads to comply with the Curt warranty.
Both trailer hitch options install partially inside your bumper so it will be a little more difficult for them to start rusting or corroding due to the elements. If you check your trailer hitch every once in a while and you see some scratches from road debris go ahead and cover them with black spray paint and this will help prevent rust/corrosion from appearing or spreading.
