Is a Bike Adapter Bar Needed for a Trek 7100

Published 08/29/2018

Question:

Very informative answer, this is all new to me so I must ask, using a hitch mount type of bike rack are there other options I should be looking at to mount my type of bikes so I wouldn't have to use the bike adapters.

I would indeed recommend using a bike adapter bar like part # 64005 when carrying your Trek 7100 on the Swagman Original Bike Rack part # S64152-2. The reason for this is because if you attached the bike rack directly to the carrier without an adapter bar, the front wheel would hang very close to the ground and if you were to hit a bump or go up a steep incline, the bike could make contact with the road and damage both the bike and bike rack.

Yes, a platform bike rack would be better for you and most will not require the use of an adapter bar however, they will be less cost effective and heavier than a hanging bike rack. I recommend the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE part # HR1400Z. This bike rack has cushioned upright arms, ratcheting wheel straps, and a raised shank for ground clearance. It can be folded for storage and it can be broken down into 2 and 4 bike variants. I have attached a review video for you as well.
