5 Wire Trailer Wiring on Honda Gold Wing GL1800 Compatibility with 4-Way Trailer Wiring

Updated 07/25/2018 | Published 07/24/2018

Question:

Can you please help me find the correct wiring harness or connectors for going from a female 5 wire set-up on my 2006 Goldwing to a male 4 wire plug on my trailer. I am seeing several different harnesses on-line that say they are correct, but I do not want to tear into the bike to far to get it hooked up. The picture below is on the trailer. Thank you.

A 5-way on your vehicle side will allow you to plug your trailer 4-way in without an adapter needed. It looks from your photo like there is a shroud on your 4 way trailer side, which can simply be trimmed. Another option is to replace it with the Hopkins Endurance 5-Way Flat Trailer Connector - Trailer End # HM47910 and have the extra wire or use the 4-way # HM48110. Another option is the Hopkins Endurance Quick-Fix Replacement 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector w LED Test Lights - Trailer End # HM48192.

The extra wire on a 5-way is normally for electric trailer brakes on a motorcycle application and your trailer doesn't have brakes with its current connection so that 5th pin will not be used unless you go to a trailer with brakes and add a time delayed brake controller.
