If the weight of the fully loaded trailer (including water and propane tanks) is below the manufacturers tow rating of the vehicle, the Commander will tow the trailer with no problems. If your Commander is not already equipped with a transmission cooler, I would recommend one. If you could respond with the model year of your Commander, I would be happy to recommend a specific cooler.

Since the trailer weighs more than half the weight of the Commander, a Weight Distribution System is recommended. A Weight Distribution System should be chosen based on the tongue weight of the fully loaded and ready-to-tow trailer. Tongue weight is calculated as being 10 to 15 percent of the trailer weight. Given the 5500 lb weight of the trailer, your tongue weight would range between 550 and 825 lbs.

I would recommend the Reese Trunnion Bar System, part # RP66542. This system is designed for trailers with tongue weights ranging from 600 to 1200 lbs. This system is also available with the Dual Cam Sway Control System, part # RP66084. The dual cam system will stop trailer sway before it can begin, making towing safer and less stressful. Both systems I recommended include the weight distributing shank, but a trailer ball with a 1-1/4 inch shank will be needed. For a 2-5/16 inch ball use part # 19286 or for a 2 inch ball, use part # A-90.

I have provided links to our weight distribution and transmission cooler FAQ pages.
