Drill Bit for Drilling Into a Steel Frame to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2001 BMW 5 Series

Question:
I have never drilled steel. Is the wheel well hard steel?What kind of drill bit do I need and do you have any special tips to do this properly. Thanks

I am not entirely certain of what grade or gauge steel is used on the various components of a 2001 BMW 5 series. For drilling holes into car frames a cobalt bit is generally recommended with a dab of high terperature grease. Start with smaller bits and work you way up to full size. If grease melts, your bit is getting too hot.09.
