Recommended Suspension Enhancement for a 1996 Roadtrek 190

Updated 05/30/2018 | Published 05/27/2018

Question:

Hello! I will be purchasing a 1996 Roadtrek 190 next weekend. In a months time I will be hitting the road for a few months with my wife and daughter and want to ensure that the van is riding good. I saw where you recommended Roadmaster Active Suspension and also the Super Springs Suspension Stabilizer kits. I was curious to know which is better for our purpose? We will likely not be towing anything but will be packing heavy. I may also be adding 2inch wheel spacers to the vehicle. Let me know what you think, thank you.

The Roadmaster Active Suspension Kit and SuperSprings Suspension Stabilizer and Sway Control Kit are both good choices for your 1996 Roadtrek Popular/Versatile 190. They will help to stiffen the rear suspension which will improve carrying capacity but with the stiffer suspension, the ride will be rougher.

Instead, I recommend taking a look at either a rear anti-sway bar or a steering stabilizer. An anti-sway bar will reduce body roll and improve stability whereas a steering stabilizer will tighten the steering and help reduce driver fatigue. Neither of them will make the ride harsher like the above two products would.

In order to make sure you get the correct anti-sway bar or steering stabilizer, I would need to know which chassis you have. There were two options for your Roadtrek which are a Dodge Van 3500 or Chevrolet Van 3500. If you have a Dodge chassis I recommend using the Roadmaster Rear Anti-Sway Bar part # RM-1129-111 but if you have a Chevrolet chassis I recommend using the Roadmaster Reflex Steering Stabilizer part # RM-RBK1-RSSC.
