The SportRack Vista XL Cargo Box, part # SR7018, is designed to fit a wide range of crossbars from Thule to Yakima, and most OEM crossbars. If your 2001 BMW 3 Series Station Wagon has a factory roof rack with crossbars that are not wider than 3-3/4 inches, and can be spaced apart 25-7/8, 27-7/8 or 29-7/8 inches, the SportRack Vista XL Cargo Box will fit.
If your BMW only has side rails that run front to back, you will need to install Thule Roof Rack, part # TH712200 and # TH710401, to mount the SportRack Vista XL Cargo Box.
You will want to check the vehicle owners manual for the roof load carrying capacity as you will not want to exceed it.
