Item # 325-GH-601 #1 Does this unit allow backing up? #2 also i have a trailer with the ball mounts installed previously and wondering if those are industry standard size? what size ball do i need on the tongue?

Friction-style sway control mechanisms like # RP26005 and the items shown on the linked page DO NOT allow you to back up a trailer while the friction bar is engaged. It must be disconnected or at least have the tension released. Otherwise the anti-sway unit will be damaged.

The small hitch balls used to connect the sway arm are standardized but I recommend using one from the same maker as the sway unit to ensure compatibility. All such items are linked for you too.

If you need a mounting bracket to fit over your ball mount we offer one for a 2-inch ball mount, part # RP26003 and one for a 1-1/4-inch ball mount, # RP26005. The linked photo shows how these install.

We DO offer weight distribution systems that have integrated sway control that DOES allow you to back up the trailer. An example of one of these is # EQ37100ET.
