There are mounting brackets and base rail kits that will work for your 1996 Chevy C2500 truck but the Curt # C16418 is part of install kit # C16418-204 which is not a fit for truck.

For a custom installation kit the Husky Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit # HT31402-686 is a confirmed fit for your truck. This kit is going to minimize the amount of drilling you will need to do in the frame of your Chevy C2500. There is also a universal kit, the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit # RP30035 which is a fit for your truck. This kit is going to have a longer installation since it is not designed for your truck but does have a more appealing price point.

Each of these will give you above-bed base rails in your Chevy which is going to allow you to mount a fifth wheel that fits industry-standard base rails. If you are looking for a new hitch let me know and I'd be happy to make a recommendation for you.
