To install a Tekonsha brake controller, like the Prodigy P3 # 90195, in a 2016-2017 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or 2500 you will simply need the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3016. No hardwiring is required.
This will plug into the port under your driver side dash and then into your brake controller directly as you can see in the attached video for a Draw-Tite brake controller which uses the same plug-in adapter.
You can try hardwiring it in, but you will need to look at the back of the box that you connect the plug-in adapter to and find the correct wires with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. Since there is a plug-in adapter option for this install, we have not hardwired a brake controller in so I wouldn't know everything that it entails. Using the adapter will allow you to easily remove the brake controller if you swap trucks or end up getting a new one down the road.
