Is a 2009 BMW 328i Capable of Towing a Small Trailer and Scooter

Question:

hi .. i was wondering if there with be any problems towing with a small trailer and a scooter on it .i have and 09 bmw 328i with sport suspenion and i was just wondiering if it will be ok to tow with it thank you

The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 24857, is a Class I trailer hitch with a 2,000 pound gross trailer weight capacity and 200 pound tongue weight capacity. Check your 2009 BMW 328i owners manual for its towing capacities and which ever is lower, the hitch or vehicle, stay within that limit and you will not have trouble.

You will want to make sure that the gross trailer weight and tongue weight when loaded is under the capacity of the vehicle or hitch, whichever is lowest. In order to determine the tongue weight of a trailer when it is loaded, there are a couple of different methods.

The easiest would be to use a tongue weight scale, # e99044. You can also follow the procedures outlined in our weight distribution FAQ article which I have linked for you to view. I also included a link to a video review of the tongue weight scale.

Tongue weight should be between 10 and 15 percent of the gross trailer weight, loaded and ready to tow.
