Installation of Wiring Harness on 2012 VW Tiguan

Question:
Hello. After reading all the great reviews I am about to order the wiring kit for a 2012 Tiguan, U.S. spec. I noticed that at least one customer avoided the trouble of routing the positive lead up to the battery by tapping into the trunk area 12 V power outlet. The only negative being that when parked with the key off the trailer lights/flashers will not operate. Is this an acceptable manner to power the 12 V positive lead if one is willing to accept the key-on limitation? Thank you.

You should definitely not tap into the trunk's 12V power outlet when installing T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118675. The accessory 12V outlets were not designed to handle the additional load of a wiring harness and it will likely fail. I strongly recommend taking the time to run the lead to the vehicle's battery. I've added a link to a video showing this harness being installed on a 2012 VW Tiguan for you to take a look at as well.
