Question:
Hello, I have a 2016 BMW X3 sorry, I dont know what version means. where can I find that information? that I would like to put a hitch and a plug in wiring kit hopefully not requiring any splicing that is compatible to my vehicle. Can you recommend a good hitch and wiring kit and everything else that is needed to tow a rented trailer. Do you sell black colored hitch balls? Thank you

We can help you with a hitch, wiring and the related items needed to tow a rental trailer with your 2016 BMW X3.
I recommend the higher-capacity hitch option which comes from Draw-Tite, their hitch # 76226, since it offers a 750-lb tongue weight (TW) rating as compared to 350-lbs for the Curt # C13316. TW is downward force on the hitch from the trailer's weight; you should be able to find out from the rental company what the specific trailer's empty TW is to confirm it will be compatible. Keep in mind that once loaded the trailer TW will increase.
For a 4-pole wiring harness you can use # 119250KIT which is a no-splicing option that uses clip-on wiring connectors. This avoids cutting the X3's wiring and allows this wiring kit to move on to your next vehicle when that time comes. This wiring kit will provide basic tail, turn and brake lighting signals. I linked an install video for you.
I also suggest Ball Mount Kit # EBMK4. This includes a ball mount that fits into the hitch opening and two sizes of hitch ball, since trailers differ in what size ball their couplers will fit. This kit gives you both and include a handy storage bag too.
You might want to consider some towing mirrors to give you a better view of the trailer and motorists behind you. The K-Source kit # KS3990 provides clip-on towing mirrors for both sides of the X3.
I also linked two helpful articles on towing components and tips for safe towing. If you have any other questions please let us know.
