According to the Ford Trailer Towing Guide, the maximum towing capacity of your 2005 Ford F-150 will vary depending on engine size, wheelbase, drive type, and axle ratio. In order to provide you with your vehicle's maximum towing capacity I would need to know if you have the 4.2L, 4.6L, or the 5.4L engine; if you have the 126" wheelbase or the 144.5" wheelbase; if your truck is 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive; and if you have the 3.31, 3.55, 3.73, or 4.10 gear ratio.
Another way to calculate your truck's maximum towing capacity would be to find both the Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) and the Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW). This will be located on the information tag placed inside the driver's door jamb. If you subtract the Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of your truck from the (GCWR) that will give you the maximum Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) you can safely tow.
With all of that being said, the most well equipped and optioned 2005 Ford F-150 has a maximum towing capacity of 9,900 lbs therefore, no matter which of the above options you have, I cannot recommend you use your truck to tow a 10,400 lb 5th wheel trailer.
