Question:
I have a 40foot diesel pusher and tow a 10000 car hauler. The trailer is usually loaded with a golf cart and jeep so running between 8000 to 9000 # total weight. Manual says hitch can handle 10,000# towing with 1000# tongue weight with weigh distribution hitch. I have watched install videos on trucks, not motor homes. The trailer pulls fine now with standard hitch but do not want to have issue down the road. How do you adjust a weight distribution hitch when the RV has air bag suspension? What tires do you recommend on a trailer as described? Bias vs Radial. I run 225 75 15s

To adjust a Weight Distribution system on your 40 foot diesel pusher motorhome, I recommend making sure you air bags are inflated to the level you believe needed for your trailer to ride level. Then you can make adjustments to the head angle and brackets as needed to ensure proper distribution when trailer is level. If you don't already have a weight distribution system, I recommend the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w Sway Control - Trunnion Bar - 12,000 lbs GTW, 1,200 lbs TW # RP66084. This system has sway control that is active and fights sway and has an easy to adjust system for the head that doesn't include stacking washers like older style systems. I've attached a video to assist. This system is rated for tongue weights between 600 and 1200 lbs. You will want hitch ball # 19286 with this system.
For your trailer tires, I recommend the Taskmaster Provider ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E # TR225LRE. These tires are rated for 2,830 lbs at 80 psi so they will manage your load well and are rated for speeds of up to 81 mph as well. They have a ply rating of 10 and have automotive grade sipes for improved traction. I recommend Radial tires because they run cooler based on the cord positioning at a 90 degree angle, making them have less rolling resistance for highway driving which is obviously going to be the majority of your travel with your combination. Radial tires will give you a longer tread life and improved steering for this type of travel.
Let me know if you have further questions.
