Can Head of Curt Fifth Wheel Hitch be Replaced for a Higher Weight Capacity?

Question:
I’ve got a 16,000 lbs Curt slider I got from camping world. I’ve traded my 5th Wheel and could use a 18,000 lbs to 20,000 lbs hitch now. Can I replace just the head or do I have to change everything? It is an A16 using base rails. No puck system on 2017 Ram 3500.

I spoke with a representative of Curt, who said that replacing the head unit of your Curt A16 # C16521 would not give you a higher weight capacity; you would need a new fifth wheel hitch.
Since you already have base rails on your 2017 Ram 3500, you would only need the hitch itself, and I recommend taking a look at the Curt Q20 # C16536. This hitch has a towing capacity of 20,000 lbs, and is similar to the A16 in that it has a 2-jaw locking system, a 3-point indicator system, a 4" height adjustment and 12" of front to back travel.
I've added links to video reviews of this hitch for you to take a look at.
