Updated 09/25/2017 | Published 09/24/2017

Question:

I connected the camera to number plate on my 21foot caravan, and the moniter on the windscreen of tow vehicle, Jeep GC. total distance from rear of caravan to moniter approx 36. The moniter will only work intermittertly, it comes on for 1 to 5 seconds then loses signal. My Q is as the transmitter is built in to camera

I spoke to my contact at Peak and they informed me that as you are at the very end of the transmitters limits (40'), there is likely to be interruption within the signal from the camera to the monitor. The only solution I have for you aside from replacing the unit with one more designed to be used at greater distance is to reposition the backup camera to sit more inline with the monitor free of obstructions. I would place the camera as far to the left on the back of the trailer as possible and the monitor as far to the left on the dash as possible.

If the signal is still poor or lost once the camera is repositioned, I recommend using the Hopkins Rear View Camera with Backup Sensors part # HM60195VA in addition to the Extension Cable for Hopkins Smart Hitch Backup Camera part # HM3100504061 as this setup will give you 45' of clear uninterrupted signal. In addition to rear view viewing, this camera as has an audible alert system.

I have attached review video of this rear view camera system for you.
