Question:
Looking at your 2 install videos for the hitches that fit the 14 X5, the Draw Tite has you install the hitch and then re-attach the bumper bar over it, whereas the Curt has you remove it and leave it off? Is this correct and do you rate 1 over the other?

You are correct. The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75600 requires you to temporarily remove the bumper/fascia on the 2014 BMW X5 but will allow you to re-install it once the hitch is in place. The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # 13077, which is also confirmed to fit this vehicle, will not allow the bumper portion to be re-installed. I have also attached the written installation details for both hitches so you can see exactly what each entails.
For your 2014 BMW X5, I do recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75600 mentioned above. Other than the bumper fascia being able to be re-installed, Draw-Tite also does not require you to use stabilizing straps with non-trailer loads (bike racks, cargo carriers) like what Curt requires for their hitch. I have included an installation video on the 2015 X5 that you can use for reference.
If you are looking to do any towing, I recommend the Tekonsha Vehicle Wiring Harness # 119250KIT to install a 4-Way connector at the rear of the vehicle. This will be a no-splice option that will power your trailer's signal lights by simply clipping onto the wires. This is a universal, hardwire harness that will work well for your BMW X5. I have attached the installation details for you to check out.
To tow a trailer you will also need a ball mount. I have attached an article that explains how to choose the best one for your setup along with a link that will take you to our available selection.
