Question:
Is this rack acceptable for use on a carbon bike. I am worried that the arm that rests on the frame could cause a crack in the carbon.

You're right that a rack like the Thule DoubleTrack, part # TH92BJ, could damage a bike with a carbon fiber frame.
A great, and really versatile, option is the Transfer V2 # KU84FR. It holds the bikes by the wheels so you don't have to worry about any damage to the frame. It also includes a bike lock to keep your bike safe. I really like this rack because of the variety of styles it can carry with its high 60 pound per bike capacity and it's one of the few racks tha are rated to be used on the back of a motorhome or trailer.
