Question:

the specs say 30 inches in width and its definitely less than 500 lbs. cheaper suggestions? hitch mounted.

We have ramped cargo carriers for 2-inch hitches that are displayed on the linked page. Pro Series carrier # PS10401-10402 has inside dimensions, the actual usable platform space, of 47-3/4 long x 31-3/4 wide and it has a 400-lb weight rating. The carrier itself weighs 105-lbs.

To safely use this carrier near its maximum capacity you will need to install it in a hitch that is rated for 500-lbs, since the carrier itself will use up 105-lbs of the hitch's own weight capacity.
