Why Is Key Stuck in Yakima SkyBox 12

i just got home with a new skybox 12, puy the key in and opened the box and cannot get the key out.

Are you trying to pull the key out with the box open? It's designed not to let the key out until you close it so that you don't accidentally take off with your lid open and have everything in the box fly out on the highway.
