Switching From ST205 to ST225 Without Changing Spare Tire
Published 06/21/2017 >
Question:
I just took my 2001 Bronco LT 2 horse trailer to Les Schwab for new tires. The original tires when I bought it new were the ST205. I guess I just assumed that they would put the same size tire on when I took it in, but when I picked it up, they informed me that they put a bigger tire on. My spare tire is still the original ST205 size. Is this a big deal? Should I take it back and ask for the the 205 size? Thank YOu!

The difference between those ST225 tires and the ST205 sizes can be around 1 inch in diameter and 1 inch in width depending on the other tire measurement information. It will make your spare the wrong size to use. I'd personally ask them to change out your spare if everything looks and functions well. I've attached an article to assist in the actual measurement differences.
You should always use tires of the same size, load range, and construction on a trailer. If you use tires that don't match, you could experience problems of overloading and overheating, which can lead to tire failure. It can get you by in an absolute emergency, but may cause uneven wear on your tires if you have it on too long.
