Recommended Swivel Jack For Carry-On Trailer With Low Ground Clearance

Updated 01/03/2026 | Published 06/20/2017

Question:

I just purchased a 5x8 Carry-On trailer that sits pretty low to the ground. The trailer jack I bought at Home Depot is the wrong size because it is too long with the low clearance under the tongue of the trailer. Do you have a jack that would work with these lower trailers? Note this is not an A-frame trailer.

Since your trailer sits low I recommend a swivel jack. That way you can swivel the jack out of the way when you are towing the small trailer.

The jack I recommend is the Dutton-Lainson Trailer Jack # DL22300. This is a 1,200 lb jack and it will fit trailer frames up to 3 inches wide and 5 inches tall. The jack swivels out of the way when you are towing and it has a 6 inch wheel so you can move the trailer around by hand when it is not being towed.

Seeking swing away trailer jack stand that will work on my trailer tongue that sets 10" off ground when mounted to my vehicle hitch.

@Richard I'm not sure what your capacity or lift requirements might be but you could use the etrailer Boat Trailer Jack w/ Wheel # MJ-1200B or # MJ-1500B-DWL. Both have a bolt on installation and swing up and out of the way when you're towing.
