Replacement Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2000 Toyota Sienna with Original Harness Not Working

Question:

I need to replace my spec trailer adapter as power no longer comes out of my black box / coverter to my right tail blinker on my trailer. Background info: My van blinker still works as well as all other lights to my trailer. I tested the pwer to the coverter and it is good. The part number of the factory installed plug is 5034102c. It is called Spec trailer adapter made by BWD Automotive and tested by 03/05. Your adapter on this site seems different then the one factory installed on my van. Do I really need the black box? What does it do?

You are correct, if you have power going into the converter box and not coming out of the converter box you, for any one of the trailer lighting functions, will need to replace the converter.

Although the converter does not look the same it preforms the same function, combining the separate brake light signal and turn signals on your vehicle on to the same wires going to the trailer lights.

The Hopkins Custom Fit Wiring Harness, item # 43475, will install inline with the connectors going to your tail lights. These connectors are usually located 6 inches directly behind the taillight assembly, see instructions link.

You should also check the trailer wiring for a short, or bad ground connection, to be sure that you do not overload the new wiring harness once it is installed.
