Question:

I own a 2016 Subaru Forester with side rails and factory crossbars currently installed. I want to fit both a cargo carrier and a surfboard on my roof. Do you have any recommendations for the best products to buy in order to achieve this?

We have both cargo carriers and surfboard carriers that will work with your 2016 Forester.

The roof boxes that is confirmed to fit your Forester crossbars is the Thule Motion # TH629906 which needs 37-1/2 inches of crossbar to work.

The most narrow cargo basket we offer that will work with aero-style crossbars is the Yakima SkinnyWarrior # Y07014-16. This basket is 23 inches wide.

The surfboard carriers we offer require too much crossbar space to allow a basket or cargo carrier to fit with the surfboard carrier like part # INXA445 requires 9 inches additional crossbar space in addition to the board.

Although it is not designed for surfboards, some customers use the Thule Stacker # TH830. This carrier comes with ratcheting tie-downs and 2 straps with buckle protectors included. This would require carrying the surfboard on its side.
