Question:
I have a 2014 GMC 1500 regular cab pickup with what appears to be a GM OE hitch 12k wgt and 1.2K tongue wgt. rating. I cannot find any info on the hitch that would indicate I could use a WD hitch. The trailer is fairly light 3300 dry weight with 350 loaded tongue wgt. The hitch I am considering is the Curt 17300. The only reason for the hitch is to reduce porpoising.

Your factory hitch actually maxes out your towing capacity on your 2014 GMC 1500. These trucks always have the ability to use weight distribution, so you won't have any issue using a system on your light weight trailer to help with sway control and give it a smooth ride without porpoising.
I don't believe the Curt Weight Distribution System with Shank - Trunnion Bar - 6,000 lbs GTW, 600 lbs TW # 17300 is the best system for your application. You want to account for total loaded tongue weight and any cargo behind the rear axle of your truck. For a better system, I recommend the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Round - 6,000 lbs GTW, 600 lbs TW # FA94-00-0600. This will give you an anti-sway that will help you with such a light trailer that is constantly engaged to keep your trailer from porpoising and sway without breaking the bank. For this system, I recommend # EQ91-00-6080 for a 2 inch hitch ball or # EQ91-00-6100 for a 2-5/16 inch hitch ball.
