Recommended Jack To Change A Tire On A Tear Drop Trailer

Updated 05/31/2017 | Published 05/30/2017

Question:

I need a jack capable of changing a tire on my TearDrop camping trailer which weighs about 1500 pounds loaded. The trailer frame is about 20 inches above the ground, and to change a tire, we need to go up from there. We travel some very rugged and very remote areas. This is a tiny home built trailer with limited storage, so a tall jack that stores small is ideal. Trailer is about 5x10foot plus tongue. It has the Timbren Axle-less suspension with 4inch lift, also from etrailer. I have been using the Hi-Lift jack from my Jeep, but if we tow the trailer with any other vehicle, we dont have a big jack with us. Im thinking I can store a scissor jack easily enough somewhere attached to the trailer, maybe underneath. Or maybe get another hi-lift if I have to. The tall scissor jacks I see at ETrailer say they are for leveling not for lifting, but my trailer is so small and light, that I wonder if it would be ok to use one of those anyway? Im open to ideas. What can you suggest? Thanks in advance.

To lift your trailer to change a tire, I recommend the Powerbuilt Farm Jack - 39-3/4" Lift - 6,000 lbs # ALL647587. This jack is made to lift trailers and other equipment for maintenance. It is just under 4 feet long and has a thin design much like your Jeep's jack. This style jack is all that we have to lift your trailer over 21 inches to gain you that tire changing access.
