Trailer Valet XL Coupler Recommendation

Updated 05/16/2017 | Published 05/15/2017

Question:

I purchased a Trailer Valet XL to move my 3000lb vintage trailer up a small incline into my backyard. When I attached the valet for the first time i realized that there was a lot of play in my coupler and in fact it is a bit bent giving a lot of movement front to back. I tried using the plate and it feels like I have a tight connection until put the weight down on the TV XL. My old coupler does not have an adjustment to make the ball fit tighter, and there is just too much front to back movement to try using this up into my yard. I am thinking of having a new coupler installed and was wondering if there is certain couplers that work best with theTV XL? The current setup is an a-frame welded on.

Looks like a standard yoke style A-frame coupler you have on your trailer. Based on what you described it does sound like it's out of adjustment and in need of being replaced. I don't care for the yoke style of couplers since they get difficult to latch after a while so I would go with the Fulton Coupler part # F44314R0303 which uses a latch style that's a bit easier to use over time.

This will work well with your Trailer Valet XL part # TVXL25.
