Best Rooftop Kayak Carrier For Two 10 Kayaks On A 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Question:

Hi! I am looking for a setup for 2 - 10 foot kayaks on the roof of our 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Crew Cab. We tow a fifth - wheeler camper with the truck, and do not want the kayaks on the camper. Which rail systems and kayak carriers should we get? Thanks

In order to carry two 10' kayaks with a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 while towing a 5th wheel camper, you will have two options to consider. The first entails the use of a roof rack with rooftop kayak carrier. The second option consists of a front mounted hitch and hitch mounted load extender.

For a roof rack, I recommend the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars part # RRVA150B-2 and # RRRLKVA. This model fits both crew and quad cab variants of the 2500 featuring an aluminum light-weight design with built-in locking mechanism.

To haul the two kayaks on your roof rack you may want to consider the Rhino-Rack J-Style Kayak Carrier part # S512. This carrier will allow up to two kayaks to be carried on the roof of your vehicle with the addition of our Expansion Arm part # RRS512X. You will want to consider an extra tie down strap part # RRRBAS1-2 to ensure a safe ride. In order for this method to work you will need to measure from about the mid point of your truck's roof back about 5 feet. If you feel this will give enough room to account for the turning clearance needed for your 5th wheel, then this option should work for you. If not, I have another solution that will allow for you to haul two kayaks with your current setup.

The second method to consider consists of a front mounted hitch like the Curt Front Mount Hitch part # C31071 and a load extender like the Thule Goalpost part # TH997. These parts, combined with the roof rack I recommended will allow you to carry your kayaks over the front of your truck while towing your 5th wheel.

I have attached a few additional supporting documents for your review.
