Will the 3016 cord work with my Silverado 3500hd with integrated factory brake controller? I have a Prodigy P3 that I kept from my trade-in and would like to use it instead of the integrated controller.

I don't blame you in wanting to keep your Prodigy P3 # 90195 over the factory controller. You will simply want to unplug the factory controller and use the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers # 3016 you referenced. Nothing else should be required.

I have read some responses saying wires had to be cut and new ones run to avoid dash lights and messages from coming up, is that not true?

For your 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500, you do not need to cut and splice wires. The direct wiring harness you need will depend on the brand of aftermarket brake controller you use. There won't be any dash lights when you unplug a factory controller and use the correct wiring harness in it's place. For Tekonsha or Draw-Tite use # 3016 For Curt use # C51451 For Hayes use # HA81798-HBC
