Yes, the Trailer Brake Control Harness part # 3016 4-pin connector is a direct plug-and-play fit for your 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD and compatible with all Tekonsha brake controllers. The pigtail harness is located underneath your drivers side kick panel.
The next step in choosing a brake controller is to decide between a proportional and time-delayed brake controller. A timed delay controller functions with a slight delay between the time that you initially apply the brakes in your tow vehicle and the time that the controller reaches maximum power output. Time delay controllers are generally lower in price. A proportional brake controller senses when and how your tow vehicle brakes with an internal inertia-based sensor and immediately relays that information onto the trailer.
For a time-delayed brake controller I recommend the Draw-Tite Activator Trailer Brake Controller part # 5504. The Draw-Tite brake controller is compatible for trailers with up to 2 axles featuring a fully adjustable output controller.
If you are seeking a proportional brake controller I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195. The Tekonsha Prodigy features a 360 degree automatic levelling system with built in customizable LCD display. It is also compatible with trailers up to 4 axles.
I have attached some additional documents for your viewing.

I have read some responses saying wires had to be cut and new ones run to avoid dash lights and messages from coming up, is that not true?

Will the 3016 cord work with my Silverado 3500hd with integrated factory brake controller? I have a Prodigy P3 that I kept from my trade-in and would like to use it instead of the integrated controller.
