Question:
I have a 7 pin connector on my vehicle, but its large and takes up a lot of room on my tight hitch area. Can I use something more streamlined? I do need it for electric brakes, but not reverse. It looks like a 6 pin would work, but something flat or square would be better.

A 6-way round trailer connector, like # HM48420, once it's mounted isn't going to be much smaller than a 7-way. If you don't need any functions other than running, brake, and turn lights along with the brake circuit I suggest going with a 5-way flat connector like # HM47900.
To put a 5-way on both your tow vehicle and trailer you can use the kit # HM47890 that includes both connectors.
