Weight Distribution System for a 2017 GMC Yukon with 27ft 5200 lb Dry

Question:

I have a 2017 GMC Yukon with HD tow package 8200lbs. The trailer we are getting is Keystone Bullet 27bhs total length 30ft. The dry weight is 5200 and the tongue weight is ~600lbs unloaded. The RV dealer has recommended Reese stedi-flex 1000lb with sway. How does this compare with the dual-cam straight line? My concern is that with the short wheelbase I would like the best possible sway control and I dont know how the friction pads on the stedi-flex compares with the dual cam design. I would appreciate your feedback.

If you are trying to decide between a dual cam or friction style weight distribution system, then I recommend the dual cam system. Using a dual cam system, like the Reese Strait-Line # RP66084,
will help eliminate trailer sway before it begins while the friction system will tries to correct sway after it has already started.

Friction systems begin to work only after a trailer begins to start to sway. The bars use the metal to metal friction that helps bring the trailer back in line. With the cam system, the trailer is constantly being forced to stay in-line with the tow vehicle. The dual cam action will make a more steady and quieter ride than the friction style weight distribution systems.

When trying to decide on a weight distribution system for your towing rig, you will need to know the total tongue weight of your set-up. The total tongue weight will be a fully loaded ready to tow trailer, plus any weight located behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Once you have found your total tongue weight, you will be able to decided on the correct system for your towing application.
