i am looking for the most affordable and reliable roof rack and the proper attachment for skis and snowboards. I just want to make sure that I am purchasing the right rack and the right attachment.

For your 2008 Subaru Legacy Sedan the most cost-effective roof rack that is also going to be reliable is from Rhino-Rack using the following parts:

The only option that is cheaper is only a semi-custom fit so it does not offer the best fit for the vehicle.
For ski carriers that will fit the Rhino-Rack roof rack you have some options. For 6 pairs of skis or 4 snowboards you can use # RR576. For 4 pairs of skis or 2 boards you can use # RR574.
