Question:
As concerns part#65046. Does it really require drilling a 1 1/4inch hole for installation?

Draw-Tite front-mount hitch # 65046 is a confirmed fit for your 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 or 3500 series pickup. Drilling two 1-1/4-inch access holes on each side of the frame is a requirement for getting the included hardware into place; you'll want to use a 1-1/4-inch hole cut saw for this. The written instructions and a video showing installation in a 2007 Ram are both linked for you.
If you'll be using a snow plow in the hitch you might want to consider from front suspension support to prevent sagging. I linked our main page for various front-axle spring kits; just select your vehicle style and 2WD or 4WD to see suitable options. For example, for a 2500 series 4WD you could use Timbren front axle kit # TDF25004B.
