Updated 09/21/2016 | Published 09/20/2016

Question:

I have a 2008 lexus rx 350 without a towing package and need to know what wiring harness to use. I have just installed a hitch. Ive read a bunch of forums and some say that they all come with a preharness to cut into under the back left side and some say they dont. Confused a little, havent called dealer yet so Im starting with you guys. Thanks,

The trailer wiring harness I recommend for your 2008 RX 350 is the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 118478.

This is a pretty simple installation. There is no splicing or cutting into your vehicle wiring. You just plug the harness into the connection points located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area. Next, you attach the ground wire(with the ring terminal attached) to a clean metal surface. Last, you then run the hot lead wire to the positive battery post using the included fuse and that is it. You want to make sure you avoid sharp edges, moving parts, or the exhaust when running the wire to the battery. I have attached a link to an installation video for this harness that would be very similar to your vehicle.

When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
