Trailer hitches for a 2016 Audi Q5, I have the choice of Draw-Tite or Curt. It seems the Curt hitches even for an Audi A6 require a strap of some sort to stabilize the load if I use a bike rack. I have a Saris Freedom bike rack and will use it with two bikes. Combined weight of rack and bikes is around 75 lbs. Is this a cover your ass request by Curt, or are they really that weak with a load?

We do have many people asking about the stabilizing strap for the Curt hitches requirement. The Curt hitch, part # C13136 is solidly built and has the same capacity as the Draw-Tite Hitch, part # 75940. Curt issues the statement about a strap like part # 18050 as a precaution and to help relieve some of the stress on the back of a vehicle when using any non-towing accessory.
My choice is the Draw-Tite, part # 75940 which has the same capacity as the Curt hitch but has no strap requirement for non-trailer loads.
