Question:
With the addition of the dog crate, weve finally outgrown the capacity of my 2005 Honda CRV for our family of 4. We want to add some temporary roof storage for 2-3 trips to the beach each year. Dont have the factory roof racks or rails, although there is clearly a space to add them. Also want to add a hitch and a 4-bike rack that will accommodate the side-swing door. What do you recommend? Dont need anything too fancy. Was thinking TH934XTR for the bike rack, 87578 for the hitch, and TH869 for a rooftop bag. Need advice on the best racks found factory ones on EBay for $89 but Im concerned about weight limits? Thanks for the guidance

You will want to make sure you get a roof rack that is designed for your 2005 CR-V. When traveling you want the equipment you use to be dependable. For a roof rack I recommend the Rhino-Rack RVP Series Roof Rack, part # RRRVP01. This roof rack has aerodynamic, black low-profile crossbars and attaches to the fixed mounting points on the roof of your CR-V. This roof rack has a weight capacity of 165-lbs but you want to make sure you do not exceed the roof weight carrying capacity of your vehicle.
The cargo bag I recommend is the Rightline Sport 2 Rooftop Cargo Bag, part # RL100S20. This 15 cu ft cargo bag measures 44 x 36 x 19 inches and is constructed of waterproof PVC material. This bag has double sealed seams and even has a flap that covers the zipper to keep your cargo dry. Even though manufacturers state their products are waterproof it is always a good idea to keep items you want to remain dry in a bag so you are sure it does not get wet.
The trailer hitch I recommend is the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # 75690. This is a Class lll trailer hitch and it has a 2-inch receiver opening. I have attached a link to an installation video for this trailer hitch on a 2005 CR-V you can check out.
The Thule Hitching Post Pro, part # TH934XTR you referenced will work well with your CR-V. This bike carrier can handle 4 bikes that weight up to 35 lbs each and it has anti-sway cradles that help keep the bikes from banging into one another. The carrier has a tilting feature when empty that gives you access to the rear cargo area of your CR-V. I have attached a link to a video that shows this carrier being installed on a CR-V.
If you are carrying bikes with alternative frames like kids bikes or women's bikes I recommend using an adapter bar like part # 64005. This attaches between the seat post and the handlebar stem and allows the bike to be carried more level in the carrier while providing additional ground clearance. I have attached a product review video for this adapter bar.
