Question:
I have a horse trailer that when level with the weight distribution bars attached rubs the pavement far to frequently. I would like to install a height adjustable bulldog coupler to the trailer but I think that will render the weight distribution system useless? ideas? thanks.

If you use the Bulldog Adjustable Trailer Coupler, # BDA256C0317, with the Bulldog Adjustable Channel Bracket, # BDAC3000300, it is adjustable and can raise the coupler height, which could keep the trailer from being level with the vehicle. This will cause problems when hooking up and turning with your weight distribution system. With the coupler being higher it will not allow the spring bars to work properly and distribute the load evenly to the vehicle and the trailer. So the weight distribution will not work with the height adjustable coupler.
You will have to raise your whole trailer if you are wanting to keep the weight distribution spring bars from rubbing the pavement and still keep it level. About the only ways to raise the whole trailer would be to use a taller wheel and tire or to change the spring hanger height on your trailer.
To change to a taller tire and wheel you will need to make sure you will have the clearance on your trailer for a taller tire and that the taller tire has the correct load carrying capacity for your trailer.
To change the spring hanger height will require more work, because you will have to weld on all new spring hangers to your trailer frame. If you have a dual axle that would be 6 new hangers and if you have a triple axle that would be 8 new hangers.
I am sending links to information on trailer suspensions and measuring a trailer tire.
