Swapping Hitch Between Different Generations of Same Vehicle

Question:
Will the 24865 hitch fit both a 2012 Ford Fusion as well as a 2006 Ford Fusion? I realize there is a different model specific to the 2006. But it looks like this hitch would work for the 2006 as well. I would like to be able to move it back and forth between my vehicles.

The Draw-Tite Class I hitch you referred to, part # 24865 is a fit for the 2010-2012 Ford Fusion, 2010-2011 Mercury Milan and the 2010-2012 Lincoln MKZ only. It won't fit your 2006 Fusion.
For the 2006, you'd want the Curt # C11329. If you look at both hitches, as well as their installation procedure, you can see that the two hitches are quite different. I've linked you to install instructions and videos for both hitches.
Even if the same hitch fit both vehicles, the hitch hardware is good for a one-time use only. Trailer hitches aren't meant to be repeatedly installed and removed.
