Question:
Hi, just found your site and found it helpful! I am new to the trailer hitch world. I have an 06 Volvo XC70, with a 1 and 1/4inch trailer hitch installed. I purchased a 2inch receiver from Home Depot before I even knew about this site to be able to mount the Thule Apex bike rack to it, which requires the 2inch receiver. I am getting significant play/ sway between the trailer hitch and the 2inch receiver. I am wondering which anti-rattle product would work best for my situation. It seems the pins with a shim and spring inside might do the trick, but this only solves side to side? And the clamping solution looks like it might work, except that it might not fit being that the receivers come together underneath the bumper. Please advise what you think, I can also send a pic to you.

The Thule Apex Swing 4-Bike Hitch Rack # TH9027 that you referenced includes an anti-rattle mechanism and the same is true of the Apex 5 carrier # TH9026. Because both of these racks have a solid shank you cannot use an add-on anti-rattle device like the Let's Go Aero # 63232.
The best way to use the built-in Thule anti-rattle system is to first install the empty rack and tighten the anti-rattle knob while you push the rack up/down and side to side. Continue to tighten the knob while applying pressure to the rack to take up more slack. Then load the rack and repeat the process of pushing/pulling on the rack to work out any remaining play. You may need to periodically re-tighten the knob after travel.
