Question:
They appear what I want but about theft protection? Do I have to remove the rack when I leave my car along the river bank or is there a locking nut for the clamp bolts?

The only way to lock the Rhino Rack J-Style Kayak Carrier part # S512 to your roof rack would be if you used a cable lock like the part # 8122D. You would have to route the cable through the rack and around the crossbars.
