Can Dual-Cam or SC Friction Sway Control be Added to a Pro Series Weight Distribution System

Updated 09/08/2015 | Published 09/05/2015

Question:

I have a 2010 Toyota Highlander. I just bought a camper with a total weight of 4300 lbs and about 400 pound tongue weight. It came with Reese Pro Series WD hitch identical to Part 49587 with 1200 pound spring bars. I want to change to 600 lb spring bars and add sway control. I have a friction sway control bar #83660 that came with it, but I dont like it very much too noisy, too much hassle. Can my current head #58333 work with #23227 or #58356? Can I then add cam sway control RP26002 or friction pads? Or do I need to replace the whole head unit with something like #66072.

The Pro Series head, # 58333, will accept round bar # 58336, but the bar doesn't actually have a bend in it to use dual-cam sway control and it doesn't have the right design to use the SC style friction pads.

Your best option is to use the bar style friction sway control with the new bars. Or you could replace the weight distribution system you have with a new one with the type of sway control you want such as the Strait-Line system # RP66072.
