Installing Bike Rack On Rear of Cargo Carrier

Question:

I have a cargo carrier very similar to the 17x46 Curt Cargo Carrier for 1-1/4inch and 2inch Hitches - Steel - 500 lbs except it is for 2inch only. Would it be possible to add a Curt Hitch Extender for 2inch Hitch Receivers - 8inch Long to it and then mount a Platform-Style 2 Bike Carrier to that? Thanks

Hollywood Racks offers a bike and cargo carrier, part # HR1400Z-85 that is a combined bike rack/cargo carrier. The bike rack is designed to be very strong, so it can support the cargo tray, and the cargo tray has a limited capacity of 90 lbs when used along with the bike rack.

If you were to mount a bike rack onto the rear of a cargo carrier, it would place too much weight too far rearward of the trailer hitch. This would exert a huge amount of leverage on the hitch, likely damaging it or the hitch attachment points to the vehicle. Even it what you wanted to do was advisable, it wouldn't be possible because the shank tube on your cargo carrier likely wouldn't be compatible with the shank of your bike rack.
