Question:

Hello, I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado 3500 with a Hillsboro GII flatbed and recessed gooseneck hitch. I am looking at adding a fifth wheel hitch and was wondering what options I have for my flatbed. Thank you!

As long as the recessed area in the bed measures at least 12 x 12 inches or so, most of the adapters we offer would work just fine for you.

The best practice is to use a fifth wheel hitch for a fifth wheel, but in your case that isn't practical. Many adapters can be rough on the fifth wheel's frame, and some frame warranties will even state that an adapter shouldn't be used for that very reason.

The Reese Goosebox is an exception. Because it includes an air ride component that exerts very little stress on the fifth wheel's frame, Lippert (one of the largest fifth wheel frame manufacturers) has stated that using the Goosebox won't void the frame warranty. Because of this, the Goosebox would be my first recommendation.

The Goosebox would replace the entire OEM pin box, so it's only compatible with certain pin box models. If your pin box is a Lippert 0719, 1621 and 1621HD or a Fabex PB-600 Series, use # RP85FR. For a Lippert 0115, 1116 and 1716 also with a 20K capacity, use # RP94716-61301.

Another option would be a cushioned adapter like the Convert-A-Ball # CAB-C5G which is height adjustable from 12-16 inches tall. I've provided a diagram showing how to determine the height you need.
