1,500 lb Tongue Weight Trailer Setup Weight Distribution System Recommendation
Published 06/19/2015 >
Question:
Hi, I have the above mentioned setup for truck and trailer. Currently I am running a 1500lbs weight distributing hitch with trunion bars as the tongue weight weighs in at 1500lbs for the trailer. I am looking for an add on sway control system and am wondering if this setup would work. The Max trailer weight is 12000 lbs. Thanks

Since you already have a weight distribution system you couldn't also install a second one like the part # RP66022 that you referenced that does have a 12,000 lb total trailer weight capacity.
A couple things you should note are that the best way to fight trailer sway is with proper trailer loading. If you can get the tongue weight of your trailer to be 10-15 percent of the total trailer weight you will have the best chance at preventing sway.
Also, you said that your loaded tongue weight is 1,500 lbs and that your current WD system is rated for up to 1,500 lbs tongue weight. Since tongue weight includes the weight of cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle you are most likely exceeding the tongue weight capacity of your current WD system.
If this is the case you would want the part # RP66075 as it has a tongue weight capacity of 1,700 lbs and it features the only sway control on the market that works to prevent sway before it starts.
